Pets Beds - Your Pet Needs A Comfy Bed Too!
One of the first things most new pet owners buy are pets beds. It’s important to have
a comfortable and comforting place for your pet to sleep, especially if you want to discourage him or her
from sharing your own bed! Let’s start by looking at pets beds for our canine friends.
Dogs Beds

If you plan on getting a puppy, you will probably be buying more than one pet bed
unless you get one that grows with the dog. Puppies are often difficult to deal with those first few nights. They
miss their family and feel all alone. It’s a good idea to have a kennel, blanket, puppy bed and alarm clock handy.
The blanket will cover the kennel and provide a kind of den for him while the alarm clock will imitate his mother’s
heart. The puppy bed will keep him warm and comfortable. Later, you can leave the door of the kennel open so he can
use it as a den when he wants some peace and privacy.
Pets beds for dogs come in many shapes, sizes and materials.
There are round and square ones that are more like pillows than beds and there are
differently shaped, soft box-like beds with removable mattresses/pads. The kind of stuffing and coverings depend on
your dog’s need and the climate you live in. Pets beds with down or down alternative stuffing are ideal for cold
winter months while those with less insulating properties are more suitable for warmer months. There are even dog
beds with built-in heaters!
Keep in mind that not every dog has the same needs. An older dog might be more
comfortable on a memory foam bed that eases pressure on elderly joints. A dog that spends a lot of time outside
might benefit from a bed with flea and tick repellent built into the stuffing. A very small dog might prefer a
basket with a hood and a soft pad within to make them feel secure and warm. There are also sheepskin beds for
ultimate comfort and chew resistant beds for dogs that tend to be curious or bored.
Have you ever wondered why your dog or cat prefers the couch or a chair to their
supposedly comfortable bed on the floor? It’s probably because they are cold! Warm air rises and at floor level the
air can be as much as 10° cooler than at couch level. If you live in an area with cold winters, a special bed that
will keep them toasty warm in winter is a good investment.
Cat Beds

Cats are a little easier to please than dogs! There are cats that are perfectly
happy sleeping in a cardboard box that has had a hole cut into it and stuffed with a soft blanket. Most cat lovers,
though, prefer to provide a more luxurious bed. Cat caves are particularly popular right now, both with cats and
their owners. A cat condo includes a covered bed, climbing areas and scratching posts.
How Much Do Pets Beds Cost?
Pets beds can cost anywhere from $9 to over a hundred dollars! No matter how cute
a bed is, though, be sure you have your pet’s needs in mind. They don’t care how it looks, only how it
feels!
